About Us
Established in October 2003, the Cheddar Chocolate Company tells an enviable story of success and has grown rapidly from producing just two items when it first started, to over 100 products that are now sold nationally.
It was after an evening meal at the Cheddar Cottage Indian Restaurant that Dean Sweet, his wife Vicki and mother Brenda Hooper made an off the cuff remark that they could make the personalised after dinner mints that had arrived with their bill.
This simple idea lead to an intense 18 month research programme where the team of three carried out a thorough investigation into every aspect of producing the after dinner mint. Dean, Vicky and Brenda were determined that if the job was worth doing it was only worth doing extremely well.
It was a huge commitment as well as a heavy investment in machinery and premises, but just three years into their business, they had proved that their inspiration was a revelation.
Their sales to restaurants and large corporations grew rapidly along with their reputation for supplying quality confectionary at reasonable prices. So much so that after just four years of trading they moved from their small premises in Saxon Place to their current location, Winchester Farm in Cheddar that is five times the size!
The Cheddar Chocolate Company is also one of only four companies in the country who make the personalised after dinner mints that are sold to a host of national organisations such as B&Q: Gaymer Cider Company and the RAC along with restaurants, hair and beauty salons, pubs and hotels including the Hilton Group.
Whilst their corporate side continued to grow, there was such a high demand from private buyers that they decided to open up the retail side. The Cheddar Chocolate Company now has a large selection of mouth-watering chocolates and sweets that you can buy on-line or by visiting the factory shop at Winchester Farm, Cheddar.
The Cheddar Chocolate Company is justifiably proud of their reputation and the number of returning customers is testament to the superior and exceptional quality of their products. But don't take our word for it, why not put in your order now and see for yourself just how good it really is.
Chocolate Trivia ...
The melting point of chocolate is directly linked to its fat content. The most important piece of chocolate making machinery is the tempering machine that gives chocolate its glossy finish.
